HOMESICK

The organs in my body are falling
the wrong way again. I dream
tea time in the middle of a forest. Two of my
uncles in each canoe, me—six
with a face full of freckles, shoving
fistfuls of jerky into my mouth,
wearing nothing
but curls & cutoffs.

Abbie J Leavens received her MFA from the University of California-Irvine. She currently teaches English and Poetry at UC-Irvine and Long Beach City College. Her poetry has appeared in journals such as BlazeVOX, BLOOM, Barnstorm, Reed, Xenith, and others.
